Welcome to the Great Western Trail Aussies where we strive to raise our Miniature Australian Shepherds for composition, structure, agility, coat, disposition and working ability. Our dogs are exposed to livestock at an early age. We use our dogs in our cattle work. They are considered a vital part of our daily operation. Our Aussies are trained by a renowned trainer known for herding. We keep champion blood lined stud dogs. In our opinion there is nothing better than a hard working dog doing what they were designed to do. The Aussies at GWTA are also our companions and friends.
A little history lesson: The Great Western Cattle Trail; though less well known than the Chisholm trail, the Great Western Cattle Trail was longer in length and carried cattle for two years longer than the Chisholm. The Great Western Cattle Trail saw over seven million cattle and horses pass through Texas and Oklahoma to railheads in Kansas and Nebraska - an important factor in developing the cattle industry as far north as Wyoming and Montana. It started at Bandera, TX often ending at Ogallala, NE but sometimes on to Montana.
The Great Western Trail Aussies is located in the heart of the cattle trail in Oklahoma. If you are looking for herding/work driven dogs to help you drive your cattle up your modern day trail look no further.
Transport agreements can be made for transport to areas out of state. Transport is at the expense of the buyer. Some arrangements can be made prior to pick-up for meeting within a 100-150 miles radius.
All puppies come with full vet records. Puppies are examined by a veterinary in the first 48-72 hours of birth. Vet administered wormer and shots. Dew claws will be removed and tails that are not natural docked tails will be docked also by the veterinary. 50% deposit will be made to hold a puppy as sold. Total is due on puppy at time of transport or pick-up. Puppies are well socialized. They are raised the first few weeks in the house with us. Then are gradually exposed to outdoor conditions. Puppies will have been exposed to cats and cattle before leaving our farm.
We hope you will consider a GWT Aussie as your next family member and partner.
